Orientation Services for Newcomers
Starting over in a new country can be challenging, but you don’t have to do it alone. At the CCLC, our Orientation Services for Newcomers (OSN) are designed to help you feel supported, informed, and empowered throughout your settlement journey.
We provide individualized support, needs-based planning, and case management for newcomers in London and surrounding areas. Whether you are a Government-Assisted Refugee, Refugee Claimant, Permanent Resident, or Protected Person, our experienced team is here to help you adjust to life in Canada.
What to Expect
1. Needs Assessment and Initial Appointment
Your first meeting with a Settlement Counsellor includes a private, one-on-one conversation to learn more about you and your family's situation. We’ll ask about your immediate and long-term goals, any barriers you’re facing, and what services or information you might need.
We assess areas such as:
Housing
Health and mental health
Language and education
Employment and income
Legal and immigration status
Transportation and daily living
Family and social supports
2. Personalized Settlement Plan
Based on your needs assessment, we will co-create a personalized settlement plan with you. This is a flexible roadmap that outlines the next steps, services to access, and your goals for the short and long term. Your plan may include:
Referrals to other community agencies or government programs
Suggested workshops, classes, or orientation sessions
Support with important documentation or appointments
Regular check-ins with your counsellor
3. One-on-One Supports
One-on-one supports are available to all newcomers through our Newcomer Settlement Advisors who can help guide, inform, and equip individuals and families with the information, assistance, and resources they need to settle into their new life in Canada.
4. Information Sessions
Information sessions are 1-2 hours in length and provide important information on a wide variety of specific topics including:
Overview of Canada
Sources of Information
Rights and Freedoms
Canadian Law & Justice
Important Documents
Improving English or French
Employment & Income
Education
Housing
Health
Money & Finance

4. Ongoing Case Management

Regular follow-ups to track progress and adjust your settlement plan
Coordination with service providers such as social workers, legal clinics, housing supports, and healthcare professionals
Crisis intervention and advocacy when needed
Continuous support from the same Settlement Counsellor.
